NXNE 2018 – Yonge-Dundas Square

Azealia Banks-14

Due to a busy month I was only able to cover one day of NXNE, on Friday June 15, 2018, but what a great day it was!  Up and coming dirty pop punk band New Swears was the first band I saw, I admit I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t see any of the stage antics I’ve heard of from this band.  Cadence Weapon was next up who brought a bit more energy, even though the crowd was still relatively small as most people were still getting out of work.  US Girls were definitely buzzed as their 2018 album has potential to make a lot of “best of” lists at the end of the year, and they delivered a great performance.  Azealia Banks showed up late on stage but put on a fun and energetic performance.  The highlight of the evening was headliner Jazz Cartier who hyped up a now full Yonge-Dundas audience and commanded the stage, as well as climbing onto the barricades separating the fans from an unnecessarily enormous photo pit (good for me, but you could fit over 100 people in that space).  Click below to see my photo coverage on Canadian Musician’s blog!
